Acquisitions Assistant

Canadian Scholars/Women’s Press is looking for a highly motivated individual with strong communication, time management, and organizational skills to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting our Acquisitions Editors in acquiring new titles as part of our higher education publishing program. This is a hybrid remote and in-office position, based in Toronto, ON.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Researching and creating material to support Acquisitions Editors’ (AEs) evaluation of new projects, including:
    • discipline research
    • market research
    • author research
    • new edition research
    • grant research
    • review panel coordination
  • Liaising with authors, potential authors, and customers.
  • Collaborating with our Production, Marketing, and Sales departments.
  • Updating internal databases with information on Canadian Scholars’ titles.
  • Attending and taking minutes at meetings.
  • Potential for travel to represent Canadian Scholars at conferences or other events.


  • An undergraduate degree and/or a degree/diploma in book publishing.
  • Experience working in an office environment.
    • Working in Publishing or Library & Information Sciences, and/or working in a research capacity would be an asset.
  • Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a wide range of tasks.
  • Expert command of written and oral English; French would be an asset
  • Effective communicator who is clear, friendly, and professional.
  • Proactive and goal-oriented with a demonstrated ability to think strategically, creatively, and anticipate needs.
  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to liaise with remote instructors and colleagues via phone, email, and video conferencing.
