Biography
Amani Hamdan is a prize-winning scholar and popular speaker on topics relating to Muslim women's identity and education. Her current research focuses on the educational experiences of Arab Muslim women, human rights issues, and women in science. Originally from Saudi Arabia, Dr. Hamdan now lives in Ottawa where she is an adjunct professor and researcher at the University of Ottawa.
"As they reflect on transplanting their roots from the diverse Arab Muslim societies to multicultural Canada, Amani Hamdan and her interviewees explain the complexities in acquiring self-realization as autonomous citizens. Challenging Canadian stereotypes while critiquing their Arab Muslim cultural roots, these women are one step away from self-identifying with the Qur'anic gender revolution."
Nimat Hafez Barazangi, Feminist Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Cornell University; Author, Woman’s Identity and the Qur’an
"This important book is honest, compelling, and beautifully written. One dives into the lives of women who share their tensions and their joys; we understand the contexts of their lives and dreams. The author does a beautiful job of presenting the contradictions in the women's words, a signal in itself of the difficulties these women face."
Didi Khayatt, Faculty of Education, York University

What is a Reflowable ebook?
Reflowable eTextbooks respond to the size of the device they are viewed on, much like a typical website. This causes them to look different from a traditional book. They may also contain embedded audio, video, or interactive components in addition to the RedShelf Reader’s standard study tools.
What is a Fixed Layout eBook?
A fixed layout eTextbook maintains the look and the feel of a printed textbook. The text is fixed, and the screen size determines the size of the text. These eTextbooks work best on large-screen devices and do not contain any embedded media or interactive content.
